Lynn Salvo

Lynn Salvo is founder and president of MathTree, Inc. She started MathTree because she loves teaching children math, explaining it so children “get it,” and she truly enjoys seeing a child’s face in the moment when s/he “gets it.” Her company has been providing summer math camps for children since 1999.

Dr. Salvo received her PhD in Math Education Leadership from George Mason University in 2006. The title of her dissertation is Effects of an Experimental Curriculum on Third Graders' Knowledge of Multiplication Facts.

Dr. Salvo has produced numerous original materials for the teaching of math including Multiplication Matters, the curriculum she developed for her dissertation research and refined on the basis of her research results; Divide and Conquer, a conceptual curriculum on division; Much Math in a Minimum of Morsels, a book about elementary number theory, her favorite branch of mathematics; the MathTree® curriculum, the 200-skill diagnostic system used to develop individual student skills at MathTree Math Camps. She created Product Parfait, a game that makes players think about multiplication from a point of view different from the usual, which is scheduled for publication by Didax, Inc., in January 2009. She also created the Remainder Race, a game that develops facility with divisibility rules. She has two patents for devices to teach the math concepts of odd and even and the value of the number π. She has presented numerous papers and workshops at international, national, and local conferences for math teachers. For more extensive details, you may refer to her Curriculum Vitae.

Dr. Salvo is also an avid athlete. The peak events of her athletic career were the Boston Marathon (April 21, 2003) and the Eagleman Triathlon (a half-Ironman triathlon, June 8, 2008). She uses her math to check her pace and predict her finishing times in her athletic events.
